US Open heats up in just the first round - Day 3

This is going to be one fantastic tour event; it's hard recounting day 3 looking at the matchups for day 4 this morning. But to get to round 2, round 1 was completed with these matches of note schedule of play - day 3: Myskina - Anastasia Myskina - out in the first round (4-6 2-6 to Victoria Azarenka of Belarus); Mauresmo advanced; Serena advanced; Maria Sharapova advanced; the goddess 4-6 6-1 6-3 over China's Shuai Peng (pictured below); the two Frenchwomen Mary Pierce and (the) Tatiana Golovin (pictured right above versus USA's Ashley Harkleroad) advanced; USA's Lisa Raymond out; China's Na Li advanced; (the) Daniela Hantuchova advanced; USA's Jamea Jackson advanced!; Greece's Daniilidou over USA's Shenay Perry (6-0 6-2, interesting); USA's Meghann Shaughnessy advanced; Likhovtseva 4-6 6-0 6-4 over China's Tiantian Sun; Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska over China's Zi Yan (catch your breath for this: 6-0 7-5); and, in a matchup of doubles queens, Spain's Virginia Ruano Pascual over USA's Amy Frazier.

Now, in just a few hours No. 17 seeded (the) Daniela Hantuchova will test unseeded Serena's recovery; USA's Vania King will meet No. 2 seeded Justine Henin-Hardenne; USA's Meghann Shaughnessy will meet No.1 seeded Mauresmo; Na Li will face Daniilidou; really interesting matchup of Ai Sugiyama and Italy's Tathiana Garbin; and, Sania Mirza has scheduled a double's match on court 8 at 11:00 am and a single's match on court 11 also at 11:00 am (I think that is common, though.) At left, the goddess' round 2 is also scheduled for today.
