Upset to the end in Luxembourg
Alona Bondarenko of the Ukraine, currently ranked No. 62 in the world, right in the photo at left, defeated Italy's Francesca Schiavone, the tournament's No. 5 seed, 6-3 6-2 in the finals of the Fortis Championships in Kockelscheuer, Luxembourg, today. It's the eighth straight WTA tournament final that Schiavone has appeared in and walked away the runner-up. This is, of course, the same Francesca Schiavone who defeated Sania Mirza in both singles and doubles in the recent US Open at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in the Big Apple.
