US Open Day 7: the champions push on
On day 7: Serena on; Sharapova on; Mauresmo on; Lindsey on. Patty Schnyder defeated Marion Bartoli in three sets. Mary Pierce fell to Na Li, while 27th seeded Frenchwoman Tatiana Golovin defeated 6th seeded Nadia Petrova (pictured left) in three.
In women's doubles, 4th seeded Daniela Hantuchova and Ai Sugiyama advanced, while USA's Amy Frazier and Vania King fell to Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Suarez. Sania Mirza and Liezel Huber moved on 6-0 6-3, though Sania fell in mixed doubles.
These create interesting matchups on day 8: Mauresmo faces Serena; Patty Schnyder plays Lindsey Davenport; Na Li battles Sharapova; and, Sania Mirza again faces Francesca Schiavone, this time in women's doubles.
