Sanya Richards sets world record in the 400 meter sprint at the IAAF World Cup; Marion Jones out for the season

Marion Jones pulls out of the World Cup and all other events for the remainder of the season.

The IAAF World Cup features combined teams from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania; then national teams from the United States, host Greece, and three European teams that qualified through the European Cup — Russia (men and women), France (men) and Poland (women). Russia is the defending women's champion. At right, Russia's Tatyana Lebedeva wins the triple jump today.

Through day 1, the US is basically out of it on the women's side after being disqualified in the 4x100 relay for reasons still not yet fully clear. See pointer to standings in next link:

Richards takes down 22-year-old record.
