Lots! to talk about at the 2006 FIBA World Championship for Women in Brazil: days 1 and 2 scores

Lots of interesting side stories at the 2006 FIBA World Championship for Women, where the front runner remains Team USA.

Best way to begin is by updating on scores click the "Schedule and Results" tab if the page does not appear (don't trip (like I did "What the . . . understanding is going on!"), the scores are there in the rightmost column starting from the top.) Highlights:

The day 1 game featuring home team Brazil and neighboring Argentina was a grudge! match and some, won only on the final shot of the game by Brazil.

Lithuania was initially refused entry into Brazil, resulting in a forfeiture of its round one game to Australia. It was thought that they'd be out of the tourny: wishful thinking, on day 2 they skunked Canada 84 - 58. (It is being whispered they they are the actual tourny favorites.)

USA hammered China on day 1 119-72.

Pictured former Houston Comet, but a really, really nice person nonetheless, Amaya Valdemoro of Spain. Also, at top left, South Korea's Eun Hye Kim (Spain 87, South Korea 57 on day 1.)

Note Amaya and Eun Hye Kim's uniforms. Photo sources: (both) Yahoo! News/AP Photo/Victor R. Caivano.

More, much more!
