2006 FIBA World Championship for Women: Days 3 and 4

Friday, day 4, is an off day, and do they need it after the last three intense days. On day 3, USA 90-80 over Russia; Spain over Brazil by 1; Cuba over France by 1; and, Lithuania over Senegal.

Nigeria, Taipei, Korea and Senegal are out. They will play in the "classification" round tomorrow to determine their world ranking (Nos. 13 to 16.)

Potentially Nos. 1 to 12 will also play tomorrow with USA facing Cuba (should be a good game), Lithuania facing Brazil (very interesting test of the competition), and Australia facing Spain (should be interesting.)

Pictured, Russia's Maria Stepanova. In day 1's game against Nigeria (top photo) she scored 11 points, pulled down 8 rebounds and blocked 4 shots. In day 2's game against The People's Republic of China, she had a team high 17 points, had 12 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals (left photo versus Nan Chen.) Against the USA on day 3, she had a team high 16 points, with 4 rebounds and 1 steal (pictured below with (in order) Candace Parker, Candace Parker and Candace Parker, who had a game high 17 points.) Can't imagine why the Russian National Team is so cool on her playing in the WNBA. Note the length of Maria's uniform bottom as compated to the other players in the photos.
